Rachel Lewis

Rachel Lewis is Director of Affinity Health at Work and a lecturer in Organisational Psychology at City University.

Rachel is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist. She is currently the chair of the Division of Occupational Psychology conference committee, and is a peer reviewer for both this conference, the Division of Occupational Psychology Postgraduate Conference, and the British Academy of Management Annual Conference. Rachel is also a member of the Division of Occupational Psychology Health and Well-being working group, a group with the objective of disseminating information about health and well-being to the wider division, and to conduct cutting edge research in this area.

Her research is focused upon leadership and management, particularly upon the link between management and employee well-being. Her doctoral research explored the role of implicit theories of leadership in the context of employee well-being, focused on understanding more about why managers may impact upon the health of employees in the workplace. Rachel has also worked since 2005 with Emma Donaldson-Feilder and Joanna Yarker on a project sponsored by the Health and Safety Executive, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, and Investors in People to identify the behaviours associated with effective and ineffective stress management. Through her research she has contributed to the development of guidance materials used within organisations and provided by bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, ACAS and the Health and Safety Executive. She has also written articles for trade publications such as General Practice Update, Counselling at Work and People at Work, along with presenting at numerous academic and professional conferences.

Rachel combines her academic career with that of consultancy and training. She provides consultancy and training in management and leadership development to organisations, having worked with organisations including PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Bradford & Bingley, BUPA, Comet, Topshop, Allianz Cornhill, and a number of NHS Trusts, Central Government Departments and County Councils.
