The Client

• CFRS recognized that while they had a strong response to support the mental health and wellbeing of staff following a critical incident, there was need to raise awareness and build competence in mental health and wellbeing across the service.
• They were looking for mental health training, but wanted to build the skills and confidence of staff to tackle work-related stress. Given the unique demands and diverse staff base, they wanted a bespoke solution.

• Familiarisation including a review of policies, practices and interviews with stakeholders and staff across the services to develop an understanding of the ways of working, language used, culture and approach to mental health.
• Employee survey – combing their annual employee staff survey with new measures on work design and management, mental and physical health and confidence in talking about and taking action on mental health
• Design and delivery of an e-learning package with modules for all staff, and manager modules including short videos, information packs and self-guided exercises
• Live workshop sessions with all staff across the service to build awareness and skills in identifying signs and signals and taking action on work-related causes of stress.

• We hope to run a follow-up survey to measure the impact and identify ongoing activities to support mental health across the service
