Using technology responsibly to manage people - A series of guides on how people professionals can lead on the responsible use of technology within organisations

Each guide focussed on the common uses of technology, as well as the benefits and risks across six key Human Resource areas:

  • Recruitment and workforce planning
  • Performance management
  • Employee wellbeing
  • Employee voice
  • Learning and development
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion

Through literature review, interviews and round tables with industry experts, a set of nine guiding principles were developed, centred around human resource best practice, where each principle can be specifically applied within each guide area. The guiding principles are:

  • Be clear on what problem you are trying to solve
  • Ensure the right people are involved in key aspects of design, decision-making and delivery
  • Consider how the technology will impact jobs and the way things are done
  • Consult with employees to identify unforeseen risks and gain buy-in
  • Scrutinise products before procurement to understand how technical functions work and what ongoing management is available
  • Ensure data security and other compliance practices consider people principles
  • Communicate how technology is used to monitor and promote EDI
  • Keep up to date with the advances in AI and implications for people professionals
