Policy Review

Policies exist to help organisations maintain standards, ensure a consistent and fair approach to decision making, and make explicit and contextualize an employers' legal obligations. Yet too often we take for granted that policies are serving our aims.

Our research shows that many problems arise when policies are not translated into practice, and application is inconsistent. People don't know where to find them, don't understand them and policies are too often only accessed at the point of need. Too many policies are not accessible to all due to their legal framing.

Affinity's Policy Review will

  • provide an in-depth review of your policies related to health and wellbeing against our Policy Review Tool
  • map your policies against markers of good practice
  • identify current strengths and development areas in your policies
  • make recommendations to improve the design, content, accessibility and implementation of your policies

About Affinity's Policy Review Tool

  • Assesses policies against markers of good practice and content inclusion relevant to health and wellbeing at work.
  • Developed using an evidence-based practice methodology including an evidence and practice review, guidance from Acas, the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development, the Health at Safety Executive, and consultations with experts in health at work.
  • Trialled with a range of public and private sector organisations and most recently in the Midlands Mental Health and Productivity Pilot, to provide organisations with insight into strengthening policies to improve employee health and wellbeing.

How it works

Our comprehensive approach works through four steps:

Step 1: Share your policies and any supplementary information for review

Step 2: The Affinity team will review your policies against their Policy Review Tool

Step 3: Receive your Policy Review Feedback Report that provides an overview of your policies against markers of good practice, areas of strength and development needs

Step 4: Meet with a Senior Consultant to receive detailed feedback and identify next steps. Many of our clients also engage us to present the feedback report to senior stakeholders to secure engagement in future work to improve policy practices.

Our Policy Review Feedback Report provides you with actionable insights

Optional additions include full narrative summaries and recommendations, and annotated documentation to guide revisions.

We have been delighted to work with Affinity Health at Work. Using their extensive knowledge of workplace interventions and analysis of data we have collaborate to produce a series of benchmarking reports for organisation taking part in a natural experiment. The work enabled our team to build bespoke mental health at work plans for organisations. One key element was the ability to draw out specific elements relating to the employer as well as those of the employee. A further element of work was undertaken to build a maturity assessment for workplace health and wellbeing strategies. This provided employers with a real time review through evidence-based assessment. This was extremely well received by our clients particularly the Small and Medium enterprises who sometimes struggle to produce a coherent set of policies.

The team at Affinity Health at Work have been fantastic to work with. They have been engaging, co-productive in their approach, met very challenging time constraints, with all of this built on built on a strong history of work in the field with a dedicated team of experts. I cannot recommend them highly enough.
