Managing for Sustainable Employee Engagement Developing a Behavioural Framework

Although it is widely accepted by both academics and practitioners that employee engagement has a significant and positive impact on both the organisation and the individual, there is no general consensus on the conceptualisation of employee engagement.

This research aims to define employee engagement in such a way that it encompasses all the key definitions used in both academic research and practice. The definition was developed in the first phase of this research (Lewis et al 2011): 'Being focused in what you do (thinking), feeling good about yourself in your role and the organisation (feeling), and acting in a way that demonstrates commitment to the organisational values and objectives (acting).'
